Instagram auto-replies for Shopify stores

Under a Shopify store's posts the comments are short: code?, which colour?, back in stock? Comment-to-DM answers each one with the right product page or discount code while you are busy packing. Below are the words store owners use, four set-ups, freebies worth an email address, and where the automation stops and your Shopify admin starts.

Comment words for Shopify stores

Ask people to comment one word in your caption or video. Each word sends something different.

DROP
The launch-day page for your next collection: the date, the time it goes live and which pieces are in it, for people who want to be first.
CODE
The discount code from your flash-sale Story, with the end time and how to enter it at checkout, so nobody guesses the spelling.
BUNDLE
Your set or bundle page, with what is inside, the saving against buying each item alone and the last day to order for gifting.
RESTOCK
A sign-up for items that sold out, with a realistic date for new stock and a plain note when a design will not return.
GIFTCARD
Where to buy a gift card, the amounts on offer and how the person receiving it uses it, for last-minute shoppers.
WHOLESALE
How retailers and boutiques can stock your range: the minimum order, the trade price list and how to apply for an account.
EXCHANGE
Your exchange steps for a wrong size or colour: the window, who pays postage and what the order number looks like.

4 set-ups to try

Each one shows the conversation it creates. After a comment, the first DM is plain text, as Meta requires, and the link follows once they answer.

  • Launch-day page from a collection teaser

    Someone comments on your post

    DROP

    Public reply under their comment

You're on the list, check your DMs 🛍️

    First DM (plain text)

Glad the teaser caught your eye. Which piece are you hoping to grab on launch day? Reply with it and I'll send the date, the time it goes live and what to expect.Yes pleaseCollection launch: date and timeSee the launch

A teaser Reel gets saved and forgotten. The piece someone names tells you which product will sell out first, and if you keep the storefront locked with Shopify's password page until launch, the early-access details can wait until they reply.

  • Discount code from a flash-sale Story

    Replied to your story

CODEGood timing, the sale is on. Which product were you looking at? Reply and I'll send the code, when it ends and how to enter it at checkout.Your code and how to use itShop the sale

Shopify codes can carry an end date and a limit of one use per customer, so set both in the admin before the Story goes up. DMFast sends the same code to everyone, so it cannot hand out a unique code to each person.

  • Gift bundle from a flat-lay Reel

    Someone comments on your post

    BUNDLE

    Public reply under their comment

Bundle details are in your DMs 🎁

    First DM (plain text)

Lovely choice. Is the bundle for you or for someone else? Reply and I'll send what's inside, the price and the last order date if it needs to arrive for a birthday.Yes pleaseThe bundle: contents and priceView the bundle

Gift buyers and self-buyers want different things: a date for one, the saving for the other. The answer shows which page to lead with, and a gift buyer is the person most likely to add a gift card or a second item.

  • Exchange steps for wrong-size messages

EXCHANGESorry it didn't fit. Was it the size, the colour or something else? Reply with that and your order number, and I'll send the steps for an exchange and the window you have. How exchanges workStart an exchange

DMFast cannot look up an order, so the number they send is for you: search it in your Shopify admin when you answer. The question sorts a simple size swap from a faulty item, which needs photos and a personal reply.

Freebies worth commenting for

  • A size and fit guide for your best-selling product, with measurements to compare against a garment they own
  • A gift guide sorted by budget, with the last posting date for each shipping option
  • First look at the next collection: three pieces and the launch date, sent a day early
  • A care guide for the material you sell most, as a one-page card they can save
  • An early-access link for the sale, sent to the email list before the Story goes up
  • A how-to-style sheet that shows one product worn three ways
  • A guide to choosing between your two most-compared products, with a plain verdict
  • A first-order discount code for people who sign up with an email

What shoppers ask a Shopify store in DMs

Your store page answers most of this already, but people ask in DMs because it is quicker than hunting for a policy link. Send the fixed answers at once and keep the ones that need your admin open.

They askSend automaticallyAnswer yourself when
Is there a discount code? The CODE reply with the end timeThe code has expired and they ask for an extension
Does it come in another colour? The product page or the DROP listThey ask about a variant you have not announced
Will you restock the black one?The RESTOCK sign-up and a date, if you have oneThe supplier is late and you want to explain
Can I swap this for a medium? The EXCHANGE steps and your windowThe order is past the window, or the item arrived damaged
Can I buy a gift card? The GIFTCARD page with the amountsThey want a custom amount or a physical card
I own a shop. Can I stock you?The WHOLESALE termsAlways: you decide who gets a trade account

Tip: Put the order number on the first thing you ask a customer to send. Shopify orders carry a number such as #1042, and it lets you find the right one in a few seconds.

Posts that earn comments, and the word for each

  • A teaser Reel of the next collection, filmed in the studio, with DROP for the launch details.
  • A packing-an-order Reel that shows a bundle opened on camera, with BUNDLE for the contents and price.
  • A Story with a countdown clock and a code written in the text, with CODE as the reply word for the end time.
  • A try-on in two sizes on the same person, with a reply word for the size chart.
  • A Story the day a best-seller sells out, with RESTOCK to join the list for the next batch.
  • A shot of your shelves at a stockist, with WHOLESALE for other shops.

Most stores sell the most in the weeks before Christmas, on a few sale weekends and whenever a product is seen by a lot of new people. Set the words up before the post goes live, and test each by commenting from a second account.

Where the automation stops and your admin starts

  1. The comment starts a DM that asks one thing you need: the product, the occasion or the order number.
  2. The card opens a page in your store: a product, a collection, a gift card page or your exchange policy. DMFast does not read your catalogue or your orders, so keep those pages current yourself.
  3. Email captured through DMFast can be exported as a CSV and imported into your customer list or email tool, so launch emails can reach people who asked.
  4. After a sale or a launch, change the first message and the card so late commenters are not sent to an expired code.

Selling from India? The DMFast store can sell digital products such as a styling guide, give a lead magnet in exchange for an email and take free or paid 1-on-1 bookings, with payments through Razorpay. Physical orders stay in your Shopify checkout.

Things to check before you switch it on

  • Codes. A shared code travels. If the same code is posted on a coupon site, anyone can use it, so set a limit or an end date in the admin.
  • Delivery promises. State the dispatch time you actually meet, and say when duties or import tax may apply. The rules differ by country, so check each market you ship to.
  • Exchanges and refunds. Many countries give online buyers rights to return goods, and some of those rights cannot be waived by your policy. Check yours before you write the page.
  • Sizes. Do not call a fit “true to size” unless you have measured it, since mixed sizes are the biggest cause of returns for clothes.
  • Platform limits. Each comment can get one private reply, within 7 days. Instagram allows 750 private replies an hour; DMFast stays under 700 and queues the rest.
  • Short words such as CODE turn up in ordinary comments. Attach the word to the post it belongs to, and not to every photo.

Questions people ask

Does DMFast connect to my Shopify store?

No, there is no integration. It cannot see your orders, stock or customers. The card opens any page you choose, such as a Shopify product or collection, and you keep the codes, prices and pages current in your own admin.

Can each person get a unique discount code?

Not through DMFast. Every person who uses a word receives the same message, so the code is shared. Limit it in Shopify with an end date or one use per customer, and use email capture if you want to send a personal code yourself.

Can the first DM include my product link?

Not to someone who has only commented. Instagram allows plain text in that first message, so it asks a question, such as the colour. The card with the link follows when they reply. Story replies and DMs are quicker because the person wrote first.

Can it answer questions about a specific order?

It cannot look up an order. It can send your policy and ask for the order number, and the answer after that is yours. AI replies on the Growth and Business plans use only the information you write, so they will not guess at a parcel's status.

Does it work with a Facebook Page for my store?

Yes. Comments on your Page's posts and Messenger messages can get the same keyword replies. Story replies, story mentions and “Only send to followers” exist on Instagram only, so the CODE Story set-up stays there.
