Bold cursive text generator

Bold cursive is heavy, looping script like ๐“‘๐“ป๐“ฒ๐“ญ๐“ช๐“ต ๐“ฑ๐“ช๐“ฒ๐“ป & ๐“ถ๐“ช๐“ด๐“ฎ๐“พ๐“น that you can paste into a bio, name or caption: type below and copy it. It isnโ€™t a font you can install. The letters come from Unicodeโ€™s bold script set, which was made for maths, and because they are characters rather than formatting, the look stays when you paste.

Where they work

Bold cursive text: where they work
WhereWorks?Notes
Instagram nameWorksA common spot for bold cursive. Two or three words read well at that size; a long name in heavy script gets cramped.
Instagram bioWorksGood for a heading line or tagline. Put the practical details, like your area, hours or booking info, in plain letters underneath.
Instagram usernameDoesn't workHandles canโ€™t contain script letters: only aโ€“z, 0โ€“9, full stops and underscores are allowed. Keep the handle plain and the cursive in your name.
Captions, comments and MessengerWorksThe bold script letters have been part of Unicode since 2001 and show on current phones and computers. Digits and punctuation stay plain.
Hashtags and @mentionsDoesn't workTo the app, #๐“ซ๐“ป๐“ฒ๐“ญ๐“ช๐“ต and #bridal are unrelated tags, so the cursive one wonโ€™t gather posts with the real tag, and a styled @mention links to no one.
Facebook profile nameDoesn't workFacebookโ€™s name standards rule out symbols and unusual characters, so a profile name in bold cursive wonโ€™t be accepted.

Where bold cursive comes from

In 2001, Unicode 3.1 added a block of maths letters so that formulas could use a bold or script letter as a symbol with its own meaning. Bold script was one of the sets: 52 letters, from U+1D4D0, โ€œmathematical bold script capital A,โ€ to U+1D503, small z. Social apps donโ€™t care about the maths. They just show the characters, which is why your bold cursive arrives intact.

Bold script is also the more consistent of the two cursive sets. Regular script has eleven holes where letters such as โ„ฌ and โ„ฏ had been encoded years earlier, so generators borrow those older characters and a word can look slightly uneven. The bold set was encoded in one unbroken run, so ๐“—๐“ฎ๐“ต๐“ต๐“ธ keeps the same weight from the first letter to the last.

Capitals: one at a time

The capitals carry most of the decoration, with big entry strokes and loops. That makes all caps a bad idea: ๐“‘๐“ก๐“˜๐““๐“๐“› reads as a row of ornaments, while ๐“‘๐“ป๐“ฒ๐“ญ๐“ช๐“ต is recognisable at a glance. Use a capital at the start of a name or a word, and let the lowercase do the rest.

Some capitals sit closer together than you might expect, depending on the font your phone uses. Compare ๐“˜ with ๐“™ and ๐“ฃ with ๐“• on your own screen before you build a name around them.

Numbers next to bold script

Unicode has no script digits, so numbers stay as they are: ๐“”๐“ผ๐“ฝ. 2019. Next to heavy script, ordinary digits can look thin. The same maths block does have bold digits, and the bold styles on this page produce them, so you can paste a heavier year or price in by hand.

VersionExampleWhere to get it
Plain digits๐“”๐“ผ๐“ฝ. 2019What the bold cursive style gives you
Bold serif digits๐“”๐“ผ๐“ฝ. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ—Heavier, with serifs: copy them from the Bold (serif) style
Bold sans digits๐“”๐“ผ๐“ฝ. ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿญ๐ŸตHeavy and plain: copy them from the Bold style

Bold digits are maths symbols too, so a phone number or price written in them may not be recognised as a number, and people canโ€™t copy it into a dialler or calculator. Keep anything someone has to use in ordinary digits.

Bold cursive or bold Old English?

Both styles are heavy and decorative, and they suit very different profiles. Here is the same name in each, with bold italic as a calmer option:

Styleโ€œLash studioโ€MoodWatch out for
Bold cursive๐“›๐“ช๐“ผ๐“ฑ ๐“ผ๐“ฝ๐“พ๐“ญ๐“ฒ๐“ธFormal handwriting: invitations, beauty, boutiquesAll caps and long phrases
Bold Old English๐•ท๐–†๐–˜๐– ๐–˜๐–™๐–š๐–‰๐–Ž๐–”Blackletter: old print, streetwear, tattoo letteringCapitals like ๐•ด and ๐•ต, which look almost alike
Bold italic๐‘ณ๐’‚๐’”๐’‰ ๐’”๐’•๐’–๐’…๐’Š๐’Slanted but plain, and easy to read at any sizeNumbers, which stay upright

Pick one decorative style per profile. A bold cursive name with a bold Old English tagline underneath makes both harder to read.

Save your bold cursive as a keyboard shortcut

If you sign off posts or DMs with the same styled words, let your keyboard type them. The built-in iPhone keyboard and Gboard on Android can both turn a short code into a saved phrase, and the phrase can be made of these characters.

  1. On an iPhone, open Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement and tap +.
  2. Paste your bold cursive, such as ๐“ฃ๐“ฑ๐“ช๐“ท๐“ด ๐”‚๐“ธ๐“พ, into Phrase, and type a short code you never use otherwise, such as tyx, into Shortcut.
  3. On Android with Gboard, open Gboardโ€™s settings, then Dictionary > Personal dictionary, pick your language, tap + and add the phrase with a shortcut.
  4. Type the code in any app; the keyboard offers the styled phrase as a suggestion, or swaps it in when you press space.

Questions people ask

Whatโ€™s the difference between cursive and bold cursive?

They come from two separate Unicode sets. Regular cursive has hairline strokes and borrows eleven letters from an older block. Bold cursive has thicker strokes and a complete set of its own, so it holds up better on a small screen and looks more even.

Why does bold cursive look fancier on some phones than others?

Unicode decides which letter a character is, not exactly how itโ€™s drawn. Each system draws bold script with its own font, so one phone may show a formal, copperplate-like hand and another a simpler calligraphic one. Neither is wrong, but if the look matters, check your text on an iPhone and an Android phone.

Can I type bold cursive straight from my keyboard?

Standard keyboards canโ€™t produce these characters. Make them here once, then save them as a text replacement as shown above, so a short code types them for you. Keyboard apps with font modes output the same Unicode characters, with the same limits.

Can I make just my first name bold cursive?

Yes, and it often looks better. Style one word, such as your first name or your business name, and leave the rest plain: ๐“ก๐“ธ๐“ผ๐“ช Hair Studio reads faster than a whole line of script, and the plain words still help people find you.
