Emoji meaning
Who is 🫵 pointing at?
🫵 is a finger pointing straight out of the screen, so it always means “you,” the person reading. Depending on the words around it, that can be encouragement (“you’ve got this 🫵”), a playful accusation, or, next to a laughing face, a laugh at your expense.

“You”: the finger points out of the screen at the reader, as encouragement, a call-out or, with 😂, a laugh at you.
What 🫵 can mean
1. You, yes you
The core meaning, borrowed from old army recruitment posters in which a figure points straight at whoever walks past. Creators use it to grab the reader: “This is your sign to book the trip 🫵,” “Save this for your next leg day 🫵.” Before 🫵 was added in 2021, people made do with 👉, which points sideways rather than at you.
2. You’ve got this
Aimed at a friend, it’s a vote of confidence: “Interview at 10? You’ve got this 🫵.” Coaches and teachers use it the same way before a race or an exam. Here the finger means “I believe in you,” not “I blame you.”
3. Laughing at you
Next to 😂 or 🤣 it becomes pointing and laughing: “you fell for it 🫵😂.” It has largely taken over from the older 👉😂. Between friends it’s teasing. Under a stranger’s post it’s mockery, and in a heated thread it is meant to sting.
4. This is you
Sent alone in reply to a meme, a list of habits or a video, 🫵 means “this is literally you.” Tagging a friend under “people who say five minutes and mean forty 🫵” is a call-out with a grin. After an argument, though, a bare 🫵 can read as blame.
When someone sends you 🫵
What it means in a DM
Look at the words around it. “You 🫵 are coming to my birthday” is an order with a smile. “🫵😂” straight after your joke or your mistake means they’re laughing at you, usually fondly. A lone 🫵 under a meme they’ve forwarded means “this is you.” Laugh, protest your innocence, or point it straight back.
Is it flirty?
Sometimes, in a teasing way. “Guess who I was thinking about 🫵” or “someone looks good today 🫵” is flirting, and the finger makes it direct. Most of the time, though, 🫵 is jokey and platonic, so read the rest of the message before reading anything into it.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between 🫵 and 👉?
👉 points sideways, so it often points at something within the message: a link, a list item, another person. 🫵 aims straight out of the screen at the reader. When the message is about the reader, 🫵 is the more direct choice. 👉👈, two fingers touching, is something else again: shy or nervous asking.
Is 🫵 rude?
It can be. Pointing at people is impolite in many places, and the emoji keeps some of that edge. Between friends it’s fine. Under a stranger’s post, or paired with 😂, it can feel like mockery, so leave it out of serious conversations and replies to complaints.
Why do some people see a box instead of 🫵?
Their phone or app doesn’t support Emoji 14.0, the 2021 release that added the finger, so it has nothing to draw. Updating the operating system usually fixes it. Until then, 👉 says roughly the same thing and shows up for everyone.
Can a brand use 🫵 in captions?
Yes. It suits a call to action that speaks to the reader, such as “Save this for your next trip 🫵” or “This one’s for everyone who hates mornings 🫵.” Keep it away from anything that could sound like blaming the customer.
