Emoji meaning
What does the green check mark ✅ mean?
✅ is a white tick on a green square. It means done, correct or confirmed: a task ticked off, a booking accepted, a detail that checks out. People also use it to build lists in captions and bios, and to rate things one point at a time, as in “funny ✅ kind ✅ owns a dog ✅.”

Done, yes or approved: a task completed, a detail confirmed, or a quality that passes the test.
What ✅ can mean
1. Done
The to-do-list meaning. “Gym ✅ laundry ✅ emails ❌” is a progress report, and a lone ✅ in reply to “did you send it?” means it’s handled. Shops use it the same way in Stories and DMs: “Order packed ✅,” “Payment received ✅.”
2. Yes, confirmed
As a reply, ✅ is a crisp yes: the time works, the address is right, the price is accepted. It’s firmer than 👍 and shorter than “sounds good.” From a friend it can feel brisk, but it is usually just efficient.
3. A list of what’s included
Captions use rows of ✅ as bullet points for features and perks: “✅ Free delivery ✅ 30-day returns ✅ Made in Jaipur.” Dating and meme posts use it to rate someone trait by trait, often with ❌ for the dealbreakers.
4. Correct, approved, verified
Quiz accounts, teachers and fact-checking posts mark the right answer with ✅. Some accounts also add it to their name or bio to look verified. Instagram’s real badge is a blue mark placed beside the username by Instagram, not something you can type, so a ✅ emoji in a profile proves nothing.
When someone sends you ✅
What it means in a DM
Usually “done” or “yes.” Replying ✅ to a question confirms it; sending ✅ after a request means it’s taken care of. From a business, it’s a status update: your order, payment or booking went through. Nothing more is needed, though a quick “thanks” is friendly. If you asked something open-ended and got only ✅, ask which part they’re agreeing to.
Is it flirty?
Rarely. ✅ is about getting things done. The flirty exception is the checklist joke: “cute ✅ funny ✅ texts back fast ✅” written about you means they’re ticking off what they like, which is a compliment dressed as a to-do list.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between ✅, ✔️ and ☑️?
✅ check mark button is a white tick on a coloured square, green on most phones, and stands out like a button. ✔️ check mark is the tick alone, usually black or grey, which suits quieter lists. ☑️ check box with check looks like a ticked box on a form. All three mean yes or done; ✅ is the loudest.
Does a tick mean “correct” everywhere?
No. In Swedish and Norwegian schools a ✓ marks a wrong answer, and correct ones get an R. In Finland a tick also means wrong, and in Japan a circle marks the right answer while a cross or a tick marks a mistake. Online, though, ✅ is read almost everywhere as yes or done.
Is it called a tick or a check mark?
Both are right. Tick is the British, Australian and New Zealand word, check mark is the American one, and Indian English often says tickmark. Unicode’s name for this emoji is “check mark button.”
Does ✅ mean someone has seen my message?
No, it’s just an emoji they chose to send. Instagram can show “Seen” under a message once it has been read, and Messenger uses small icons of its own beside each message. A ✅ in reply means “done” or “yes,” not “read.”
Can a business confirm orders with ✅?
Yes, it’s clear and quick. Pair it with the detail being confirmed, such as “Paid ✅ Ships Tuesday,” so the customer doesn’t have to guess what the tick refers to.
