Facebook giveaway entries, confirmed in Messenger
On a Facebook Page, the simplest fair entry is a comment: people comment one word on the giveaway post and your Page confirms the entry in Messenger. Meta's promotion rules say a giveaway must not require or reward sharing, reposting or tagging others, so “tag a friend for an extra entry” is out. These 13 messages cover the caption, entries, questions, the draw and the winner.

Caption line that keeps to the rules
To enter, comment HAMPER below. One entry per person, and there's no need to share or tag anyone. Entries close on {date} at {time}, and the full rules are here: {link}
Saying “no need to share or tag anyone” keeps you inside Meta's rules, and it stops entrants doing it anyway out of habit.
Public reply under an entry
Entry received 🎁 We've sent you a quick message in Messenger.
There's no follower check for Pages, so the comment itself is the entry and the public reply can say so straight away.
Confirmation that needs no reply
Thanks for entering! This automatic message is to confirm your comment counts as an entry. The draw is on {date}, and the full rules are in the post. Good luck 🍀
If the rules are already linked in the post, the confirmation doesn't need an answer at all. Ask for a YES only when you want to send something after it.
Reply to “Do I need to share it?”
No need at all! Your comment is your entry. Sharing or tagging friends doesn't add chances, so just keep an eye on our Page for the result on {date}.
Meta's rules don't let you require or reward sharing or tagging. A friendly no, said once, also cuts down the tag chains.
Public reply to a comment full of tags
Thanks for spreading the love! Just so you know, tags don't earn extra entries, so you're in once, the same as everyone 🍀
Friends will tag each other whatever you say. You can't stop that, but you mustn't reward it, so make it clear it doesn't count extra.
Email to complete the entry
Thanks! To complete your entry, what's the best email to reach you if you win? We'll only use it to contact the winner.
Only if your rules say entry needs an email. DMFast saves each address and exports them as a CSV, which then doubles as your list of complete entries.
Already entered
Your first comment already counts, so you're in the draw. Extra comments don't change your chances, one way or the other.
DMFast answers each person once a day per auto-reply, so a second comment that day gets no new message. Keep this one for people who ask.
Not eligible
Thank you so much for entering! This giveaway is only open to people aged {age} or over living in {area}, so we can't include your entry this time. There'll be others, so do keep an eye on the Page.
If you can only deliver the prize locally, put the area in the rules from day one rather than ruling people out after the draw.
Entries closed
Thanks for commenting! Entries closed on {date}, so this one can't count, but the winner will be announced on our Page on {date}.
Change the auto-reply's first message as soon as the deadline passes. Late comments keep arriving, and each would otherwise be told it counts.
Public reply on the winning comment
Congratulations, you've won our hamper! 🎉 Please send our Page a message by {date} so we can arrange delivery.
The Page has usually used its one private message for this comment already, and 24 hours may have passed since they last wrote, so ask the winner to message you.
Winner details, once they message
Congratulations again! To send your prize, please reply with your full name, delivery address and a phone number for the courier. We'll never ask you for a payment or a password.
Their message opens a 24-hour window, so answer promptly. Saying what you'll never ask for helps them tell you apart from fake accounts.
Reply to “Did I win?”
Sadly not this time. The winner was announced on our Page on {date}. Thanks for taking part, and we hope you'll join the next one.
They wrote to you, so this reply is inside the 24-hour window and can go out automatically. Use WIN as the DM keyword: words match whole, so WINNER wouldn't catch “did I win?”.
Warning about lookalike Pages
Please be careful: Pages copying our name are commenting on our giveaway posts to say people have won. We only announce winners from this Page, and we'll never ask for card details, a fee or a login.
Post it on the Page when the giveaway ends, and delete or report the lookalike comments under your post.

Thanks for entering our hamper giveaway! This is an automatic message from our Page, and your comment already counts as your entry. Want the rules and the draw date sent here? Reply YES.Yes pleaseGiveaway rules and draw dateRead the rulesOn a Page the comment is the entry: Facebook has no follower check, and Meta's rules forbid requiring or rewarding shares and tags. Rules to know
- Meta's Pages, Groups and Events Policies make you responsible for running a promotion lawfully, including giving entrants the official rules, stating the offer terms and who can enter, and registering it with the authorities where required.
- Every entrant must fully release Meta from liability and acknowledge that the promotion isn't sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Meta. Put both in your rules.
- Your promotion must not require or reward sharing, reposting, tagging others or any other way of publicising it, so “share to enter” and “tag a friend for an extra entry” aren't allowed.
- Meta won't help you run the giveaway, and if you use its services to run one, you do so at your own risk.
- Each entry comment can get one private message from the Page, within 7 days of the comment. Anything more needs the entrant to reply, and then goes within 24 hours of their reply.
- Comments posted as another Facebook Page can't get a private reply, so business or lookalike Pages commenting on the post won't receive your entry message.

What Meta's rules mean for the way people enter
| Way to enter | Allowed? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Comment a word on the post | Yes | Commenting isn't among the things the policy says you can't require |
| Share the post to enter | No | Requiring or rewarding shares is ruled out |
| Tag a friend for an extra entry | No | Tagging others is named in the policy |
| Repost it to their profile or Story | No | Reposting is named too |
| Follow or like the Page | Can't be checked | Facebook doesn't tell apps who follows a Page |
| Give an email in Messenger | Yes, if the rules say so | It also gives you a way to reach the winner |
Prize draws are also covered by national law, which varies: some countries require registration or set limits on who can enter. Check the rules where your entrants live before you post.
How the Messenger entry flow runs
- The post names the prize, the closing date and time, the word to comment and a link to the full rules.
- Each comment with the word gets a short public reply and one private message in Messenger confirming the entry.
- If the entrant answers, the rules card follows, or first a question asking for their email if your rules require one.
- If someone stops at the email question, DMFast can send one reminder, timed to land inside the 24 hours. Reminders are on the Pro plan and up.
- When entries close, the auto-reply is switched off or changed to the “entries closed” message.
Tip: Attach the auto-reply to the giveaway post only. Otherwise someone commenting HAMPER under a different post next month would be told they've entered a draw that has already finished.
Picking the winner fairly
Draw from the comments on the post, not from your Messenger inbox: the comment is the entry, and some entrants never open the message. Facebook often sorts comments by “Most relevant”, which can leave some out of view, so switch the filter to “All comments” before you count.
Leave out comments from Pages, repeat comments from the same person and anyone your rules exclude. Write down when and how you drew, in case someone asks later.
Then announce the winner on the Page and reply to the winning comment asking them to message you. Once they write, you can sort out the prize in that chat, inside the 24-hour window their message opens.
Lookalike Pages and fake winner messages
Giveaway posts attract impostors: Pages with your name and photo that comment “You've won, claim here” with a link. Some of the defence is built in, and some is up to you.
- Comments containing a link are treated as spam by DMFast, so impostors' comments never get your entry message.
- Meta doesn't allow private replies to Pages, so a lookalike Page commenting on the post can't receive anything from yours.
- Delete lookalike comments as you find them, and report the Pages to Facebook.
- Say in the rules and in the announcement that you'll never ask a winner for money, card details or a login.
After the draw
You can't send an automatic “thanks for entering” to everyone once the giveaway ends: most entrants last wrote to the Page more than 24 hours earlier. Post the result on the Page instead. If your rules asked for an email and said you'd use it to share the result, the CSV of addresses lets you send it from your email tool.
Questions people ask
Is “tag a friend to enter” allowed on Facebook?
No. Meta's Pages, Groups and Events Policies say a promotion must not require or reward participants for sharing, reposting, tagging others or publicising it in any other way. People may still tag friends on their own; just don't ask for it or give extra entries for it.
Can I make following my Page a condition of entry?
You couldn't check it. Facebook doesn't tell apps who follows a Page, so DMFast's “Only send to followers” option works on Instagram only. A comment-only entry is easier to run fairly, because every entry is visible under the post.
Can the Page message every entrant when the giveaway ends?
Not automatically. Messages through Meta's API must go within 24 hours of the person's last message, so most entrants are out of reach by the draw. Announce the result on the Page and answer anyone who writes in to ask.
How do I contact the winner on Facebook?
Announce them on the Page and reply to their winning comment, asking them to message you by a set date. Once they write, the Page can answer in that chat, and you can ask for their delivery details there.
Why didn't an entrant get the Messenger message?
Common reasons: they commented as a Page, used a different word or only an emoji, included a link, or had already been messaged by that auto-reply that day. A big giveaway can also pass the Free plan's 100 people a month, after which new entrants get no message.
