Facebook Marketplace replies for the questions every seller gets

Most Marketplace chats start with “Is this still available?” and end with a pickup time or silence. Below are 12 short replies for the whole run: the first answer, a price that won't move, a no-show and a thank-you. Copy one, fill in the curly brackets and send it.

  • Yes, it's still available

Hi {name}, yes, it's still available. I'm free for pickup {time} if that suits you. Want me to send the address?

Answer the one thing they asked, then offer a next step. “Yes” alone leaves them to do the work.

  • Sorry, it's gone

Hi {name}, sorry, this one has just sold. I'm listing similar things every week, so keep an eye on my other items.

Mark the listing as sold as well, so the next person doesn't ask the same thing.

  • The price is fixed

Thanks for your interest! I've priced it at {link} fairly for the condition, so I'm not able to go lower on this one. I'm happy to answer anything else about it.

Replace {link} with the amount. Short and kind, with no reasons that give them something to argue with.

  • Counter a low offer

Thanks for the offer. That's a bit below where I can go, but I could do {link} if you can collect this week. Does that work for you?

Meeting them part-way, with a deadline built into the offer, usually settles things in one message.

  • Condition and wear

Good question! It's in good working order, with a small scratch on the left side that I've shown in the third photo. Happy to send another picture of any part you want to see.

Write what is actually true of your item. Mentioning a flaw before they find it saves an argument at the door.

  • Pickup details

Pickup is near {link}. I can do weekdays after 6pm or any time on Saturday. Tell me which suits you and I'll send the exact address once we've agreed a time.

Holding back the full address until a time is agreed is a sensible habit with strangers.

  • Postage question

I'd prefer local pickup for this one because it's heavy and awkward to pack. If you're too far away, tell me where you are and I'll tell you honestly whether posting is worth it.

Only offer postage if you're willing to do the work and know the cost. A vague “maybe” costs you more time than a clear no.

  • Holding it for a few hours

I can hold it for you until {time}. If I haven't heard from you by then, I'll offer it to the next person. Is that fair?

Name the cut-off time yourself. Holding something open-ended is how a listing sits for a week.

  • How to pay

I take cash on collection, so please bring the right amount if you can. You're welcome to check the item over before you pay.

State your payment method before the meeting, not at it. If you accept something else, say exactly what.

  • Nudge after silence

Hi {name}, just checking whether you're still interested in this. No problem if not, I'll just offer it to the others who've asked.

One nudge a day after they last wrote is plenty. After that, move on and let the listing do its work.

  • They didn't turn up

Hi {name}, I waited for you today and missed you. Do you still want it? If so, tell me a new time, but I can't hold it past {time}.

Stay calm, name a limit, and leave the door open. A snippy message rarely gets a better response than this.

  • After the sale

Thanks, {name}, a pleasure doing business with you! I hope it works well for you. If you have any trouble in the next few days, message me here.

A kind last message leaves a good impression, and some buyers come back to ask about the next thing you list.

Thanks! I've sent you a message with the pickup details.

First DM (plain text)

Hi! This is an automatic message because you commented ME on our post. I've got the pickup times and the price ready for you. Want them? Reply YES and I'll send them over.Yes pleasePrice and pickup detailsSee details

This only suits a business Page that also posts its stock. The first message is plain text and ends on an easy question, because Messenger gives one private reply per comment. Their YES opens the 24 hours in which the card goes out.

Rules to know

  1. DMFast is built for comments and Messenger messages on a Facebook Page. It is not designed to answer Marketplace buyer chats, so the templates above are for you to send by hand.
  2. Meta's own Marketplace tool can draft replies for sellers from the listing's description, price, pickup location and availability, and you can preview and edit them first.
  3. For a Page that posts stock, a comment can get one private reply, sent within 7 days of the comment. The conversation carries on only when the person answers.
  4. Automated messages through Meta's API must go out within 24 hours of the person's last message. After that, only a real person can reply, and only with Meta's human agent tag, up to 7 days.
  5. Keep the details of a sale inside the chat or the listing: price, time and place are easy to dispute if they were only agreed over the phone.

What Meta automates for Marketplace, and what it doesn't

In March 2026 Meta announced a Marketplace tool that uses Meta AI to answer buyers' first questions for you. According to Meta, it drafts replies from your listing: the description, availability, pickup location and price. You can enable, preview and edit them while creating the listing. Meta's announcement doesn't say which countries have it, so check whether it shows up in your app.

Everything else on this page is for you to copy and send by hand. DMFast is built for Page comments and Messenger, not for Marketplace buyer chats. If you run a Facebook Page, its comments and Messenger inbox are a different matter, and the recipe above shows how to handle those.

The questions that come next

A first message usually gets an answer within a minute and then the buyer goes quiet. Most of the second questions fall into a handful of groups, and your replies can be ready for each of them.

  • “Is the price negotiable?” Decide your lowest price before you list, so you aren't deciding it while someone waits.
  • “Can you post it?” Say yes only when you've weighed the packaging, the cost and what happens if it breaks.
  • “Can you do it cheaper if I take two?” Bundles are a good reason to move on price, because you're saving yourself a second sale.
  • “Where exactly are you?” Give the nearest landmark first and the street once a time is fixed.
  • “Does it work?” Describe what you tested and when, not just “it works fine”.

Tip: Saving your most-used replies in your phone's notes app lets you paste them in a couple of taps. Keep the curly brackets as they are so you notice what to change.

Mistakes that lose the sale

  • Answering the next day. Buyers message several sellers, and the first reply often wins.
  • Starting a haggle. Two rounds of back and forth for a few pounds can cost more of your time than they save.
  • Agreeing to hold something with no deadline. Say until when, and stick to it.
  • Sharing your home address with everyone who asks. Wait until a time has been settled.
  • Leaving a sold listing up. It brings in questions you have to answer with a no.

Meeting a stranger is the one part no template covers. Pick a public place if you can, bring someone, and be wary of anyone who rushes you or wants to change the arrangement at the last minute.

Questions people ask

Can I auto-reply to Facebook Marketplace messages?

Meta has a Marketplace tool that uses Meta AI to draft replies from your listing, which you can preview and edit. Meta's announcement doesn't say where it is available. DMFast is built for Page comments and Messenger, not Marketplace chats.

Should I reply to “Is this still available?” at all?

Yes, and quickly, with something more than “yes”. Add a time you could do pickup so the buyer has a next step. Many people send that question to several sellers at once, so a short, useful answer helps yours stand out.

How do I handle someone who keeps haggling?

Give one counter-offer with a deadline, then stop. If they push again, thank them and say the price is final. A third round rarely ends in a sale, and the time saved is worth more than the discount.

Does a Facebook Page get Marketplace-style replies?

A Page has its own tools: instant replies, away messages and comment-to-message replies. Those follow Messenger's rules, with one private reply to a comment within 7 days and everything else inside 24 hours of the person's last message.
