Tips before you post

  1. Photograph the cooking, not just the finished plate. Steam, flames, a wok toss or a hand pouring sauce show why the food is worth the queue.

  2. Ask the vendor before you film, and offer to buy something first. Many stalls are happy to be featured, and a short thank-you tag helps them far more than a vague caption.

  3. Name the dish and the neighbourhood rather than just the country. “Pani puri near the station” or “grilled corn, night market, third row” helps other travellers find the same stall.

  4. Stay sensible about food safety when you travel. Eat where food is hot and busy, and avoid giving health advice in your caption. Say what you ate and how it tasted.

  5. Respect stalls that do not want filming, and avoid including vendors’ faces or children in your post without their permission.

Ask people to comment FOODMAP

End your caption with a line like this:

“Comment FOODMAP and I'll send it to you in a DM.”

What they get

Comment FOODMAP on a street food post and get my pinned map of the stalls I ate at, with the dish to order at each one.

DMFast answers each comment and sends the DM for you. The first message asks them to reply, then the link follows, because Instagram allows no links in that first message.

Questions people ask

What is a short caption for a street food photo?

Name the dish and the setting in a few words, such as “Momos, night market, third time.” Short specific lines fit the mood of fast food and quick bites.

Should I tag the street food vendor?

If the stall has an account, yes. It helps them, and other people can find it. If it has no account, tag the area or market instead, and ask the vendor before posting a photo of them.

How do I take a good photo of street food?

Get close, shoot in the light that the stall already has, and capture the action, such as flipping or pouring. Keep the plate or cone in focus and let the background blur.

Can a food stall use these captions?

Yes, as a starting point. Replace the dish names with your own and avoid claims about hygiene, ingredients or being the best unless you can prove them.
