Tips before you post

  1. Show the snap. A broken bar held up to the camera, with a clean edge or a visible filling, looks far more tempting than a wrapped bar.

  2. Melted chocolate photographs well only if it is moving: a drizzle, a spoon lift or a pour. A still puddle can look unappetising.

  3. Use side or window light. Chocolate is dark and glossy, and direct overhead light creates harsh white reflections on it.

  4. Add a size cue such as a hand, a mug or a spoon. It tells people how big the brownie or slab actually is.

  5. If you are showing a gift or a branded box, tag the maker, but say plainly if you were gifted it.

Questions people ask

What is a good caption for a chocolate photo?

Match the photo: a snapped bar, a hot mug or a tray of brownies each calls for a different line. A short, specific caption about the texture or the moment works better than a general love-of-chocolate line.

How do I photograph melted chocolate?

Catch it in motion, such as a pour, a drizzle or a spoon lifting out of a bowl, and use soft side light. Photograph it right away, because melted chocolate looks dull as it sets.

Can I post a chocolate gift and tag the brand?

Yes, tagging the maker is fine and often welcome. If the chocolate was sent to you for free or you were paid to post it, say so clearly in the caption.

Which emoji go with chocolate captions?

The chocolate bar emoji is the obvious one. A mug, a cookie or a heart also fit. One or two emoji keep the caption clean.
