Slang meaning
What does cooked mean?
Cooked is slang for doomed or finished. If someone says “I’m cooked,” they expect things to go badly, or they are completely worn out. It has nothing to do with food.
Updated 6 October 2026
Cooked means doomed, beaten or exhausted: someone expects a bad result, or has nothing left in the tank.
What cooked can mean
1. Doomed or in trouble
The main sense. A deadline is hours away and nothing is written, a parent has seen the group chat, a test is tomorrow and the notes are blank: “we’re so cooked.” It is a joke about a problem that already feels too late to fix.
2. Beaten or outclassed
In gaming and sport it describes a loser or a plan that has been picked apart. “He’s cooked” under a clip means the person on screen has been completely outplayed.
3. Tired out
Used about energy as well as outcomes. “Cooked after that shift” means flat-out exhausted. Here it sounds more like “fried” than “doomed.”
How people use it on Instagram and Facebook
Instagram comments and Reels
Under fail clips, exam-stress memes and sports highlights. “Bro is cooked” about someone in the video is the standard comment, usually with a skull or crying-laughing emoji.
Stories and Notes
A quick mood update about the week: “three deadlines, one day, cooked.” People use it about themselves far more than about others.
DMs and group chats
Friends send it when something has gone wrong, as a shared groan. “We’re cooked, she’s found out” is a typical message, and the reply is usually another joke, not advice.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between “cooked” and “cooking”?
They point in opposite directions. “Cooked” means doomed or finished. “Cooking” (and “let him cook”) means someone is doing well and should be left to carry on.
Is “cooked” about me or about someone else?
Either. “I’m cooked” is self-mocking. “He’s cooked” is aimed at someone else’s mess and can be unkind if the person can read it, so it suits friends and jokes better than strangers.
How is cooked different from chopped?
“Cooked” is about a situation or result going badly. “Chopped” is usually about how someone looks or how good something is. Mixing them up changes the joke.
Should a brand account say “cooked”?
Only if its audience already talks this way. It fits sports, gaming and student brands. For a customer who is stuck, “we’ll sort this” is clearer than slang.
