Tips before you post

  1. Decide before the birth what you are happy to share. Many parents leave out the full name, the exact birth date and the hospital name, and tag only close family.

  2. A hand holding a tiny foot or a tiny finger shows the size of a newborn better than a close-up of the face, and it needs no editing.

  3. Shoot by a window in daylight and switch off the flash. Newborn skin looks flat and red under a flash, and it startles the baby.

  4. If you post a carousel, put the announcement photo first and the hospital snaps after it, so the first swipe is the one people came for.

  5. Check the background before you post. Medication, paperwork and other people's faces in a hospital room are easy to miss and awkward to take back.

  6. Ask grandparents and friends to tag you instead of posting first. It gives you control of how the news goes out.

Ask people to comment NURSERY

End your caption with a line like this:

“Comment NURSERY and I'll send it to you in a DM.”

What they get

my newborn checklist: the hospital bag list, what we bought and what we never used.

DMFast answers each comment and sends the DM for you. The first message asks them to reply, then the link follows, because Instagram allows no links in that first message.

Questions people ask

What should I write in a new baby announcement caption?

Say who has arrived and when, in one or two lines. Add the name if you want to share it, a weight or a detail only you would know, and leave the rest for the photo. Short captions get read in full.

Should I post my baby's name and birth date on Instagram?

That is a personal choice. Some families post both, some post only the first name, and some wait a few weeks. If your account is public, think about who can see it before you decide.

Can I use these captions for a baby shower or for a pregnancy post?

These are written for after the birth. The pregnancy page has captions for the bump, the scan and the reveal, and the bridal shower page covers a very different kind of party.

How soon after the birth should I post?

There is no rule. Some parents post from the delivery room and others wait a week or more. Waiting is a perfectly good choice, and no one will mind a late post.
