Instagram bio generator
Tell the tool your name or brand, what you do and who it’s for. It writes 14 bios in the tone you pick, each 150 characters or fewer, with the count beside it. There is no AI behind it, only word lists, so nothing leaves your device.
How it works
1Say who you are and what you do
A name or brand, a short phrase for your work (such as “wedding photography”), and optionally your audience and place.
2Pick a tone and a last line
Friendly, professional, bold, playful or minimal. The last line can ask people to comment or DM a word, point to the link, or say your own thing.
3Read the bios
Each one is built from an opening line, an optional second line and your last line, then cut to fit 150 characters. Press Shuffle for a new set.
4Copy one and make it yours
Copy a bio into Instagram’s profile editor and change any word that doesn’t sound like you. The lines are templates, so edit freely.
How the bios are made
There is no model and no server. For each tone the tool holds around ten opening lines and around ten second lines, such as “Made for busy parents: sourdough bread” or “Show up. Do the work.” It picks from them at random, fills in what you typed, adds an emoji if you ticked the box, and joins the parts with a line break, a bar or a dot.
Any bio over 150 characters loses its optional second line first, then its place line, and is dropped if it still doesn’t fit. Two bios that differ only by an emoji are not both shown, so the 14 you see are genuinely different. A template that needs something you left blank, such as an audience, is skipped.
What a bio has to do in a few seconds
Someone who lands on your profile from a Reel or a comment decides quickly whether to follow. A bio helps if it answers three questions: who are you, what do you offer, and what should they do next.
- Put the plain description first. “Sourdough bread for busy parents” beats a clever line nobody can parse.
- Say who it’s for. A bio that names its audience is easier to recognise yourself in.
- End with one action. “Comment LOAF on my latest post for the details” or “Link below” gives a visitor a next step.
- Skip what the rest of your profile already shows, like your photo or highlights.
Tip: If you answer comments with an auto-reply tool such as DMFast, use the same keyword in your bio that you set up for the reply, and write it in capitals so people copy it exactly.
About the 150 limit
The tool keeps every bio to 150 characters or fewer. Instagram’s Help Center article “Add a bio to your Instagram profile” (help.instagram.com/728994388226960, read on 7 October 2026) says: “You can write a bio of up to 150 characters on your Instagram profile.” It also reminds you that anyone can see your bio. It doesn’t say how emoji are counted. Here characters are counted as you see them, so an emoji is one; if Instagram counts emoji as more, a bio with several emoji could run slightly longer there than it does here, so check the count in the app.
To see an exact count, or to test a bio you have edited, paste it into the character counter.
Tones, in practice
| Tone | Sounds like | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Friendly | “Hey, it’s Maya. Come say hi!” | Small shops, creators, local services |
| Professional | “Dependable bookkeeping for freelancers” | Coaches, consultants, agencies |
| Bold | “Show up. Do the work.” | Fitness, training, strong-opinion brands |
| Playful | “Coffee first, replies second.” | Food, fashion, humour-led accounts |
| Minimal | “Maya · wedding photography · Leeds” | Artists, photographers, anyone letting the work speak |
Questions people ask
How long can an Instagram bio be?
150 characters. Instagram’s Help Center says you can write a bio of up to 150 characters, and this tool keeps every bio to that. It doesn’t say how emoji are counted, so check the count in the app, and use the character counter if you edit a bio.
Does this use AI?
No. It combines lines from built-in word lists with what you type, using plain code in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the same inputs with the same Shuffle number give the same bios.
Why do some bios look alike?
They share an idea but not their wording. The word lists are finite, so a few openings repeat across a batch. Change the tone, add an audience or place, or press Shuffle for a different mix.
What does the “comment or DM a word” line do?
It writes a last line such as “DM LOAF”, using the word you give. It only helps if you have something that answers that word, like an auto-reply or your own replies, so choose a word you will actually respond to.
Can I use these bios on Facebook?
They’re written for Instagram’s bio. Facebook’s profile and Page intro fields have their own length rules that we haven’t checked, so check the count there before you paste.
