What is a Facebook Page?
A Facebook Page is a public presence on Facebook for a business, brand, public figure or creator. It is managed by people with roles, not by one login, and it is what tools such as Messenger automation connect to. A personal profile is something different.

A public Facebook presence for a business, brand or creator, managed by people with roles. It is separate from a personal profile and is what messaging tools connect to.
Page versus profile
A personal profile belongs to one person. A Page belongs to a business or public identity, and one or more people are given roles to manage it. That is why a Page can have a team, and why you can remove someone’s access without changing the Page’s name or its followers.
- Posts, replies and messages are sent as the Page, not as the person typing.
- Access is split by role: some people can only read reports, others can post or manage who else has access. See the Page roles page for the table Meta publishes.
- Third-party tools connect to the Page, not to anyone’s personal profile.
Meta’s developer documentation, which we read, lists the roles and what each can do but does not define a Page in a sentence. The definition above is the general one; details of menus and features vary, so check your own app.
Why a Page matters for messaging
Customer messages sent to a Page arrive in Messenger and can be answered by people or by software. For automation, the Page is the unit that is connected: a tool such as DMFast works with Facebook Pages, not with personal profiles. If someone in your team leaves, what matters is that the Page still has someone with enough access to reconnect things.
People who message a Page are identified by an ID that is specific to that Page. This is called a page-scoped ID, and the same person has a different one for each Page they message.
Common mistakes
- Running a business from a personal profile and then losing the audience when the profile is closed. A Page keeps the audience with the business.
- Giving everyone full control. Hand out the lowest role that does the job.
- Leaving only one person with the highest role. If that login is lost, the Page is hard to recover.
Tip: Write down who holds the top role on each Page you run, and keep at least two people there. It costs nothing and avoids a bad day later.
An example
A bakery’s Facebook Page has three people on it: the owner with the top role, a part-timer who posts and answers messages, and an accountant who can only view reports. None of them posts as themselves.
Questions people ask
What is a Facebook Page?
It is a public Facebook presence for a business, brand, public figure or creator. People with roles on the Page manage it and act as the Page, instead of posting from their own personal profiles.
Is a Facebook Page the same as a profile?
No. A profile is for one person. A Page is for a business or public identity and can be managed by several people with different roles. Messaging tools connect to Pages, not profiles.
Can more than one person manage a Facebook Page?
Yes. Meta’s developer documentation lists five roles: Admin, Editor, Moderator, Advertiser and Analyst, each with different abilities, from managing roles down to viewing reports.
Do I need a Page to use Messenger automation?
For tools that use Meta’s official Messenger Platform, yes: the Page is what gets connected. DMFast works with Facebook Pages and not with personal profiles.
