What is a Facebook group?
A Facebook group is a community space where members post, comment and talk around a shared interest, run by admins and moderators. It is not the same as a Facebook Page, which speaks publicly for a business or creator.
Updated 6 October 2026
A community space on Facebook where members post and talk around a topic, run by admins and moderators. A Page is different: it is a brand’s public presence.
Group versus Page
A Page broadcasts: a business or creator posts and people follow. A group is for conversation among members, who post for each other. The group has people running it as admins and moderators, and members can usually see who those people are.
| Feature | Facebook Page | Facebook group |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | A public presence for a business, brand or creator | A space where members talk to each other |
| Who speaks | The Page, through people with roles | Members, under rules set by admins |
| Run by | People with Page roles | Admins and moderators |
What Meta has said about admins
In a 2021 post for group admins, Meta said there were more than 70 million admins and moderators running active Facebook groups around the world. The same post described tools such as Admin Home, a central dashboard, Admin Assist for moderating comments, alerts when a conversation turns into conflict, summaries of member activity and the ability to tag group rules in posts and comments.
That post is from June 2021, with a later note from March 2022. Tools change, so treat it as a snapshot and look at your own group’s admin settings for what exists today.
Groups and automation
DMFast works with Instagram professional accounts and Facebook Pages. It does not run inside Facebook groups. If your business has both a Page and a group, the Page’s comments and Messenger messages are what an automation tool can answer.
Tip: Write the group rules before inviting anyone, pin them, and say what happens when they are broken. A group with no rules fills with promotion within a week.
An example
A running coach keeps a Facebook Page for announcements and a members-only group where clients swap training tips. The coach and two moderators run the group. A third person answers Page messages.

We found no official page that describes a group messaging API, so we will not claim one. DMFast does not work in groups: it works with Instagram professional accounts and Facebook Pages.
What can group admins do?
Meta’s 2021 post describes Admin Home, Admin Assist for comment moderation, conflict alerts, member activity summaries and rule tagging. Check your own group, since tools change.
