Emoji meaning
Why people send the star-struck face 🤩
🤩 is a grinning face with stars for eyes, and it means “wow.” People send it when they are thrilled, dazzled or deeply impressed: exciting news, a stunning result, a long-awaited announcement, or the rush of meeting someone they admire. It is enthusiasm, not romance.
Updated 6 October 2026
Excited and impressed: “wow,” “amazing,” “I can’t wait.” The star eyes are the cartoon look of being dazzled.
What 🤩 can mean
1. Excited
The everyday meaning. Concert tickets, a holiday booked, a new puppy, a release date announced: 🤩 is bouncing-in-your-seat excitement. It looks forward to something, while 🥳 is the party once it arrives.
2. Impressed by work or skill
In comments it praises something well made: a makeover, a renovation, a cake, a drawing, a garden in full bloom. “The colours 🤩” means the result dazzled them, and it is a common reaction to before-and-after posts.
3. Star-struck, literally
The name means dazzled by someone famous. Fans send it when a favourite artist replies to a comment, follows them back or turns up in a video: “she liked my comment 🤩.” Starry eyes have shown admiration in cartoons and comics for decades, long before the emoji.
When someone sends you 🤩
What it means in a DM
Good news, nearly always. If you shared a plan, a photo or an achievement, they are genuinely excited or impressed, so say thanks or tell them more. If they send it with their own news (“I got the flat 🤩”), they want you to share the excitement: congratulate them and ask questions.
Is it flirty?
Sometimes. 🤩 in reply to a photo of you says “wow,” which is a compliment, and from a crush it can be a hint. But it is mostly about excitement, and people send it to friends and family just as freely. 😍 is the clearer sign of attraction.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between 🤩 and 🥳?
🤩 is excitement or awe: “this is amazing” or “I can’t wait.” 🥳 is the celebration itself, with a party hat and horn: “we did it.” Booking the trip gets 🤩; the leaving party gets 🥳.
Why does 🤩 have stars for eyes?
It borrows a cartoon habit: when a character is dazzled, their eyes turn into stars. Its formal Unicode name is GRINNING FACE WITH STAR EYES, and its short name, star-struck, describes being awed by someone famous.
Is 🤩 okay in a work chat?
In most teams, yes, for good news: a launch, a big client, a colleague’s promotion. It is a happy emoji with no rude or romantic reading, so the only real risk is overusing it until it means nothing.
When was 🤩 added?
It arrived in Emoji 5.0 in 2017, in the same release as 🤯 exploding head and 🤪 zany face. That makes it younger than 😍, which dates from the original 2010 set.
