Emoji meaning
What does the heart on fire emoji mean?
β€οΈβπ₯ is a heart in flames, and it means feelings turned all the way up. Between partners or crushes that is passion or desire. Everywhere else it is intense love for a thing: a song on repeat, a performance, a craft you are obsessed with.
Updated 6 October 2026
Love or desire at full heat: passionate romance, a strong crush, or wild enthusiasm for something you love.
What β€οΈβπ₯ can mean
1. Passion and desire
In romantic chats it is a step up from β€οΈ: love with heat in it. Couples send it after a great date or a weekend away, and from a crush it says the attraction is strong. It is more intense than sweet, so it can carry a physical undertone, though it is far less explicit than π₯΅ or π.
2. Obsessed with this
Outside romance it means burning enthusiasm. Under a new single, a dance video or a tattoo reveal, β€οΈβπ₯ says βI love this intensely,β a notch above plain π₯, which is closer to βthis is cool.β People also use it for long-running passions: a decade of climbing, a restored motorbike, a sourdough starter kept alive for years.
3. An old symbol, newly drawn
Flaming hearts are much older than emoji. The Sacred Heart in Catholic art is drawn with flames, and the burning heart is a classic of old-school tattoo flash. Tattoo artists and some faith accounts use β€οΈβπ₯ with that tradition in mind rather than romance.

What it means in a DM
Context decides between βIβm into youβ and βI love this.β Sent to a partner or someone you have been flirting with, it means strong attraction, sometimes with a hint of something steamier. Sent in reply to a song, your cooking or your new haircut, it is big enthusiasm. If you like them, answer with warmth; if it is about your work, a thank-you fits.
Is it flirty?
Often, yes. Between people who are already flirting it is one of the stronger hearts: more heat than β€οΈ, more feeling than π₯. It isnβt explicit, but it does say desire. From a friend reacting to your outfit or your gym progress, it is usually hype rather than a pass.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between β€οΈβπ₯ and π₯?
π₯ says something is cool, hot or impressive. β€οΈβπ₯ adds feeling: you donβt just rate it, you love it. On a person, π₯ is βyou look great,β while β€οΈβπ₯ leans toward βI want youβ or βI adore you,β depending on how close you are.
Why does β€οΈβπ₯ show up as β€οΈ and π₯ on some phones?
It is built from three parts: the red heart, an invisible joining character and the fire emoji. Phones that know the sequence draw one burning heart; older ones show the two emoji side by side. The meaning survives either way, because people were already typing β€οΈπ₯ for the same idea.
When was the heart on fire emoji added?
It was approved in Emoji 13.1 in 2020, together with β€οΈβπ©Ή mending heart, and reached iPhones with iOS 14.5 in April 2021. Because it combines emoji that already existed, it didnβt need a new Unicode character of its own.
Does β€οΈβπ₯ mean someone is in love with me?
Not on its own. From a partner it is passion; from a crush it signals strong attraction; from a friend reacting to your post it is enthusiasm. If someone sends it only to you, and mostly in private, that tells you more than the emoji itself.
