Tips before you post

  1. Photograph the plate from slightly above and to one side. Sushi has height and texture that a straight-down shot flattens.

  2. Use window light and turn off the flash. Flash makes raw fish look shiny and flat, and it can bounce off the plate.

  3. Take the picture quickly. Rice and nori change as they sit, and a roll photographed right away looks neater.

  4. If the chef is working at a counter, ask before filming or posting them. A photo of the plate alone is always safe.

  5. Tag the restaurant and mention a piece you liked. It gives your followers something to order, and a place that likes the post may reshare it.
