AI image upscaler
Upscale a photo, logo or screenshot 2× or 4× in your browser, up to 4096 pixels on the long side. Photos go through Swin2SR, an AI model trained on real camera blur, noise and JPEG damage. Drawings and text use the Anime4K shaders, which need no download. Drag across the result to compare it with the original before you save.
Downloads once: Swin2SR real-world ×4 for Photo mode, about 53 MB (21 MB without WebGPU)
How it works
1Choose an image
A JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 40 MB, or paste a screenshot. Phone photos are turned the right way up, and the file stays on your device.
2Say what it is
Photo uses the Swin2SR model, downloaded once and kept by your browser. Graphics and illustrations uses Anime4K shaders that start at once.
3Pick 2× or 4×
The exact result size shows before you start. Results stop at 4096 px on the long side, and a very large photo may be read from a smaller copy to save time.
4Compare and download
Drag the divider, or zoom to 100% to see real pixels, then save a JPEG or a PNG. PNG keeps transparent backgrounds.
Photo or graphics: which mode to use
The two modes are built for different pictures, and choosing the right one matters more than the scale. A PNG opens in Graphics mode and a JPEG in Photo mode, which is usually the right guess.
| Mode | Photo | Graphics and illustrations |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Phone and camera photos, products, people, old pictures | Logos, drawings, anime, screenshots, text, flat colour |
| What runs | Swin2SR, an AI model (Apache-2.0) trained on blurred, noisy and JPEG-damaged photos | Anime4K CNN shaders (MIT), run on your graphics chip |
| Download | About 53 MB the first time, 21 MB without WebGPU | Nothing |
| Time on a recent laptop | About two minutes for a 1,170 × 672 photo | A second or two, a little longer the very first time |
| Weak spot | Fine texture such as hair or grass can come out smooth | Turns photo texture into flat, painted-looking patches |
Tip: Not sure? Run Graphics mode first: it takes a second. If skin or foliage looks painted when you zoom to 100%, switch to Photo.
What upscaling can and can’t do
An upscaler adds pixels by predicting what belongs between the ones you have. Swin2SR is good at edges: lettering on a sign, the line of a jaw or the rim of a cup come out firmer than a plain resize, and JPEG blocks and grain fade. It was trained to be faithful rather than inventive, so it doesn’t paint in new detail.
- A face only a few pixels across stays a guess. The model won’t invent a likeness.
- Text too small to read in the original won’t become readable.
- Motion blur and missed focus stay blurred, just bigger.
- Heavily compressed images can show smooth, waxy patches where the detail had already gone.
Tip: If a bigger original exists anywhere, such as your camera roll, the first export or a cloud backup, start from that. A copy that went through a chat app has lost much of its detail before you begin.
Do you need to upscale for Instagram?
Often not. Instagram keeps photos between 320 and 1,080 pixels wide at their own resolution and scales wider ones down to 1,080 pixels, so a 4K upscale of a feed photo is shrunk again on upload. Anything narrower than 320 pixels is enlarged by Instagram itself, with a plain resize.
Upscaling earns its keep with small originals: an old 640-pixel photo, a logo you only have as a tiny PNG, a frame grabbed from a video, a screenshot of a product. Take those to 2× so they fill the 1,080-pixel width without looking soft. Larger results are for print, a website banner or a Facebook cover.
Privacy, limits and browsers
Your image is opened and processed inside this tab and never uploaded. Photo mode fetches the AI library from jsDelivr and the model from Hugging Face once, and your browser keeps them; Graphics mode downloads nothing. The saved file is drawn fresh, so it carries no camera details or location from the original.
- Files up to 40 MB. Photos over 16 megapixels are reduced to 16 first.
- Results up to 4096 px on the long side and 16 megapixels in all, so a big image gets less than 4×. The size you’ll get always shows first.
- WebGPU makes both modes fast: Chrome and Edge on computers, Chrome on most recent Android phones, Safari 26 on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and Firefox on Windows.
- Without WebGPU, Photo mode runs on the processor and only accepts smaller photos, and Graphics mode falls back to a smooth resize with sharpening.
- Long Photo runs show the time left and can be stopped at any point.
Questions people ask
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Both modes run in your browser. Photo mode downloads the Swin2SR model once, about 53 MB from Hugging Face, plus the AI library from jsDelivr. Your picture itself is never sent to DMFast or anyone else.
Why is my result smaller than 4×?
Results stop at 4096 pixels on the long side and 16 megapixels in all, so phones and browsers can open and save them. A 1,600-pixel-wide image can grow only 2.56× before it reaches that, and the size shown before you start is exactly what you’ll get.
Why does Photo mode sometimes read a smaller copy?
The model is heavy, so to keep a run to a couple of minutes, photos larger than about 0.9 megapixels (roughly 1,280 × 720) are read from a smaller copy on computers, and from a smaller one again on phones. You still get the full 2× or 4× size, with slightly softer fine detail. The note under the result size tells you when this happens.
Which mode is best for a logo or a screenshot?
Graphics and illustrations. Anime4K was made for line art and flat colour, so edges stay crisp and text stays clean, and it’s close to instant. Photo mode works too, but it takes far longer and can soften hard edges.
Can it fix a blurry photo?
Only a little. It firms up edges and clears JPEG blocks and grain, which reads as sharper. Camera shake, missed focus and faces that are a few pixels wide stay soft, because that detail isn’t in the file to recover.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, on phones with WebGPU: Chrome on most recent Android phones and Safari on iOS 26. Photo mode reads a smaller copy there so it finishes in a few minutes without running out of memory. Graphics mode is quick on any phone.
