GGs means “good games”: a sporting sign-off after more than one match, usually friendly and sometimes sarcastic.
What GGs can mean
1. Good sportsmanship after several matches
Say you play a best-of-three with a friend, or three rounds in a row with the same group. At the end, “ggs” is the polite sign-off: you played well, thanks for the matches. It is the plural form of GG, which most people use for a single game.
2. Sarcastic or bitter
After a bad loss, “ggs” can mean the opposite of friendly: you were ahead, or someone cheesed the win, and now they are signing off with a flat, passive-aggressive “ggs.” Tone, capital letters and emoji usually give it away.
3. A casual goodbye outside gaming
Plenty of people use “ggs” as a tongue-in-cheek sign-off after anything that went on a while: a long argument, a run of bad luck, a cooking disaster. It means roughly “well, that’s that.”
How people use it on Instagram and Facebook
Instagram DMs and group chats
After a session of mobile or console games, friends send “ggs” to wrap up the night. In a group chat it is usually followed by a rematch plan or a complaint about lag.
Stories and clips
Gamers post highlight clips with “ggs” over the final screen, or reply to a mate’s clip with it. It reads as respect for the opponent.
Comments on gaming posts
Under a match recording, “ggs” is a short thumbs-up for the players. A sarcastic “ggs 🙃” under a bad play is also common.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between GG and GGs?
GG (“good game”) is for one match. GGs is the plural, used after several games or a longer session. Plenty of players type GG for both, so the difference is more habit than rule.
What is GGWP?
GGWP means “good game, well played.” It is a slightly warmer version of GG that praises how the opponent played, not just the match itself.
Is it rude to type ggs after losing?
Not at all; it is considered good manners in most online games. It is only rude when it is clearly sarcastic, so avoid typing it in the middle of a match as a taunt.
Does GG ever mean “it’s over”?
Yes. Some players type GG mid-game to say the match has already been decided, or to concede. That is why a bare “gg” at the wrong moment can feel like giving up or a dig.
