Emoji meaning
What does 👽 mean in a chat or a bio?
👽 usually means someone feels strange or out of place, sometimes as a joke and sometimes not. It is also praise for something so impressive it can’t be from this planet, and the literal emoji for space, UFOs and sci-fi.

Feeling weird or out of place, praise for something unreal (“not human”), or simply space, UFOs and sci-fi.
What 👽 can mean
1. The odd one out
The most personal use. “Me at every family function 👽” says you don’t fit in, and plenty of people put 👽 in their bio to say they are a bit strange and happy about it. “Wrong planet” is also a familiar phrase in autistic communities, so for some people the alien is a sincere way of describing how out of step they feel.
2. “Not human”: too good to be real
Fans send 👽 for skill that looks impossible: a singer holding a note forever, a goalkeeper’s triple save, a dancer who seems to have no bones. “She’s not from here 👽” is high praise. Sports talk has the same idea and calls an unbeatable player an alien.
3. Space, UFOs and the unexplained
The literal meaning thrives in posts about astronomy, sci-fi films, sightings and conspiracy jokes. In 2019 a joke Facebook event inviting people to “storm Area 51,” the secretive US Air Force site in Nevada, drew millions of RSVPs, and 👽 filled the memes that followed. Only a small crowd actually turned up.
4. Spaced out
It can also mean dazed: jet-lagged, short on sleep, half-awake after an exam marathon. In party and stoner posts it can hint at being high, usually alongside 🍃 or 💨. If the person seems to be floating rather than feeling left out, that is the meaning.
When someone sends you 👽
What it means in a DM
From a friend, 👽 usually means they feel awkward or out of place (“third wedding this year where I know nobody 👽”), or they are calling you weird in a fond way. Sent in answer to a video or a photo, it means “that’s unreal.” A lone 👽 with no words is ambiguous, so a quick “weird good or weird bad?” clears it up.
Is it flirty?
Rarely. The nearest it gets is “you’re out of this world 👽,” which is cheesy enough to work as a joke. Two people bonding over both being aliens who don’t fit in can be a real connection, but the emoji itself isn’t a romantic signal.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between 👽 and 👾?
👽 is a big-eyed alien head, one of the originals from Japanese mobile phones, added to Unicode 6.0 in 2010 under the full name EXTRATERRESTRIAL ALIEN. 👾 alien monster arrived at the same time but is a pixelated space invader, so it points to retro arcade games and gaming. In use they rarely overlap: 👽 for weird or unreal, 👾 for games.
What does 👽 mean in a bio?
Usually that the person thinks of themselves as weird, quiet or different and likes it that way. It can also mark an interest in astronomy, sci-fi or UFOs, or be part of a space theme with 🛸 and 🌌. The rest of the bio, or the posts, will show which.
Is 👽 rude?
Not usually. Calling yourself an alien is self-description, and calling a close friend one is affectionate. Calling a stranger an alien can sound like “you don’t belong here,” and in US law “alien” has long meant a foreign national, so don’t aim it at anyone’s background or accent.
Why do people send 👽 after a video?
It means what they just watched looks unreal. A trick shot, an impossible dance move or an absurdly perfect sunset gets 👽 the way it might get 🤯: “that can’t be from this planet.” It is praise, so a thank-you is the right answer.
