What actually differs between auto DM tools

Most Instagram auto DM tools do the same core thing: someone comments a word on your post or Reel, and the tool replies under the comment and sends a DM. They differ in how they charge, whether AI is involved, whether Facebook and WhatsApp are covered, and what comes bundled. Meta’s rules, on the other hand, are the same for all of them.

Disclosure: DMFast publishes this post and is one of the tools in it. It is labelled “ours” and never listed first. Facts about every other tool come from its own pricing and product pages, as recorded on 6 October 2026, and anything the pages did not say is left out. Plans change often, so check the current page before you pay.

On Meta’s side, its developer documentation says a private reply to a comment can be sent within 7 days of the comment, only one message can be sent to the commenter, and on Instagram Live a reply can only be sent while the broadcast is running. Follow-up messages can only be sent if the person replies, and within 24 hours of that reply. No tool can talk its way around this. A tool that promises something that sounds like mass-messaging your followers deserves a question about how it stays inside those rules.

Starting free with comment-to-DM

If you want to hand out a guide or a link when people comment a keyword, a free plan can carry you a long way. The question is which limit you hit first: DMs, contacts, features or accounts.

  • LinkDM: the free plan covers post and Reel comments, Story replies, Story mentions and Facebook comments, up to 1,000 DMs a month on one account. Free-plan DMs carry LinkDM branding, and removing it, plus a public reply under each comment, needs Pro.
  • Zorcha: automations, DMs and contacts are unlimited even on Free, which also includes an “Ask for Follow” step. Collecting phone numbers or emails in DMs starts on Pro.
  • CreatorFlow: a free-forever plan of 500 automated DMs a month with comment-to-DM and Story replies. The follow gate and email gate are on Pro and Growth. Its pages cover Instagram only.
  • Inro: the free plan has 100 active contacts a month and 3 active automations. It prices Pro by active contacts, so the cost climbs as the list grows.
  • Reachlee: 1,000 DMs a month and 100 contacts free, with branding. Facebook Pages, the follow check and scheduled messages need Pro at $9 a month.
  • SuperProfile: unlimited AutoDMs on Reels and posts on the free Starter plan, with Story, DM and Live replies kept for Creator.

A useful way to compare: cap on DMs (LinkDM, CreatorFlow), cap on people (Inro, DMFast), or no cap but features held back (Zorcha, SuperProfile). If you expect a Reel to go viral, a DM cap is the one that surprises people.

When AI replies matter

Keyword automations only answer what you thought of in advance. AI replies handle the questions you did not, and they cost more because they run on credits or higher plans.

  • Chatfuel: its AI qualifies leads, and Business includes US$20 of AI credits a month. It connects natively to CRMs such as HubSpot and Salesforce.
  • Inro: an AI agent trained on your website, offers and price list that can hand over to a person. It also has an MCP server so you can run your Instagram from Claude or ChatGPT.
  • Topmate: the Agentic Auto DM plan, ₹2,999 a month, reads intent instead of waiting for an exact keyword and answers FAQs.
  • Reachlee: AI replies to DMs and comments start on Growth at $14 a month, with 1,000 AI credits.
  • Zorcha: AI answers from a list of FAQs you write, 20 on Free and 40 on Pro.

DMFast’s AI replies are on the Growth plan ($14 a month, 1,000 credits, one credit per reply) and are written only from the business information the owner provides. DMFast also has an MCP server for ChatGPT and Claude. Neither makes AI replies safe to leave unwatched: read your first week of conversations.

If you need Facebook, WhatsApp or a team inbox

Instagram-only tools are fine for most creators. A business that also sells through WhatsApp, or has several people answering messages, needs a different kind of product.

  • Chatfuel covers WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and website chat, with bulk WhatsApp campaigns on its pricing page.
  • SendPulse chatbots run one builder across seven channels, including Instagram, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram. The free plan stops at 500 subscribers, and Pro is priced by subscriber count.
  • respond.io puts WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook chats in a shared inbox for a team. It starts at $948 a year, and extra users and contacts cost more.
  • For Facebook Pages from an Instagram-first tool: LinkDM sends a DM for Facebook comments on every plan, and Reachlee runs Pages from Pro.

DMFast works with Instagram professional accounts and Facebook Pages (Messenger). It does not work with WhatsApp, TikTok, Threads or personal Instagram accounts. If WhatsApp is your main channel, Chatfuel, SendPulse or respond.io fit better.

If you want to sell with it

SuperProfile and Topmate combine auto-DMs with a store. SuperProfile’s Creator plan sells digital products, courses, 1:1 coaching and webinars, and its pricing page says it charges 0% commission. Topmate is built around selling your time, with sessions, webinars and digital products, at 10% commission on sales through your link, and Auto DM is a separate paid subscription. Zorcha’s pricing page lists digital products as “Soon”, with fees from 8% on Free down to 1% on Business.

DMFast’s store is for sellers in India: digital products, lead magnets and 1-on-1 bookings through Razorpay, with no DMFast fee on sales. Razorpay’s own fee is taken from each payment. It is India only and it works with Instagram and Facebook only.

How to choose without regretting it

  1. Decide your channel first. Instagram only, Instagram plus Facebook, or a WhatsApp business all point to different tools.
  2. Work out your meter. Are you charged by DMs, by contacts, by AI credits or by plan? Estimate one good Reel’s worth of comments and see which meter it hits first.
  3. Check the first message. Under Meta’s rules the first DM to a commenter cannot do everything, and a tool’s demo can make it look like it can. Test one yourself.
  4. Start on the free plan of two tools and run the same keyword on one Reel each.
  5. Never give any tool your Instagram password. Official-API tools connect through Meta’s own login screen.

Tip: Read the free plan’s limits as a preview of the paid plan’s limits. A tool that holds back the follow gate or email capture on Free usually wants you to upgrade at exactly the moment your list starts to grow.

Questions people ask

Are Instagram auto DM tools allowed?

Tools built on Meta’s official API are, within its rules: a private reply to a comment within 7 days, one message, and follow-ups only after the person replies. Tools that ask for your Instagram password or use bots are a different matter and risk your account.

Which Instagram auto DM tool is free?

LinkDM, Zorcha, CreatorFlow, Inro, Reachlee, SuperProfile and DMFast all have free plans, as recorded on 6 October 2026, with different limits. Zorcha’s is unlimited on DMs and contacts; the others cap DMs, contacts or features.

Can an auto DM tool message all my followers?

Not through Meta’s official tools. Messages go to people who commented or messaged you, within Meta’s time windows. Be wary of any plan that advertises broadcasts and ask how it works within the 24-hour rule.

Do I need AI replies?

Not to start. Keyword replies cover the common cases. AI helps when people ask many different questions in DMs, but it costs more and needs checking, so add it after you have read a few weeks of real conversations.

Does any tool here work with WhatsApp?

Chatfuel, SendPulse and respond.io cover WhatsApp, according to their pages. DMFast does not work with WhatsApp.
