NBD means “no big deal”: it says something is fine, easy or not worth worrying about.
What NBD can mean
1. It's fine, no worries
A reply to thanks, an apology or a favour: “sorry I'm late” “nbd”. It plays the thing down so the other person doesn't feel bad. It is a bit more relaxed than “no problem” and works when the thing really was small.
2. Understating something big
Sometimes the opposite is going on. “Just got into my first-choice uni, nbd” is a humble-brag and a joke at the same time. The thing is clearly a big deal, and calling it NBD is the humour.
3. New business development
In sales and marketing job posts, NBD can mean new business development, the work of winning new customers. In a LinkedIn-style bio it is a job function, not a slang phrase.
How people use it on Instagram and Facebook
DM replies
The most frequent place. Someone apologises for a late answer, a mix-up or a cancelled plan, and “nbd” says it's fine. It ends the exchange without fuss.
Captions and Stories
Used for modest bragging: new job, a trip, a finished marathon. “Ran 26 miles today, nbd” points at the very big deal it claims isn't one.
Business replies
Small sellers use it for friendly customer support: “nbd, we can swap the size”. It works for small hiccups, but for a real mistake it can sound as if the problem isn't being taken seriously.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between NBD and NP?
NP means “no problem” and answers thanks. NBD means “no big deal” and fits a wider set of cases, including apologies and bad news. NBD is a little more shrugging, and NP a little more helpful.
Is NBD dismissive?
It can be if the other person thought it was a big deal. When someone is clearly upset, “nbd” can sound as if you are brushing them off. It works best when the thing really was small.
Should a brand say NBD when a customer apologises?
It is fine for small things, such as a late reply. For a customer complaining about a faulty product, it can read as careless, so use a plain sentence that shows you will help.
Does NBD ever mean something else?
Yes. In business and recruitment, NBD can mean new business development, as in a job title. Check the setting: a chat reply is “no big deal”, and a company page job listing is likely the sales job.
